piratebox.lan Inaccessible, But Works with IP Address (8 replies)

I installed PirateBox onto my Raspberry Pi 2, using the provided image for RPi2.
I can SSH into PirateBox, I can reach the web interface using the IP, but I cannot load 'http://piratebox.lan' in the browser.
I tried from my laptop and phone, and it cannot be reached.
Using 'curl -I [piratebox.lan]', I get "curl: (6) Could not resolve host: piratebox.lan"
On my laptop, entering 'piratebox.lan' in Chrome, it tries to go to Google.com to search for the domain; it eventually times out.

Changes I've made, outside of the installation and post-installation steps:

/opt/piratebox/conf/piratebox.conf 
NET=192.168.0

END_LEASE=20

/opt/piratebox/conf/hostapd.conf

hi
i'm senior and i started learning raspberry pi 2 for my graduation project
i did the basic netwok setup using wierless home
but i must use usb adapter for my project so i make connection and plug usb adapter in raspberry pi but it's not shown any reaction
can any one tell me how make it lighting up so i can then install drivers and all stuff i need ?

Hello Everyone I'm new to the Priatebox family and friends i came across the Priatebox on youtube and think it is a awesome thing. But my question is that i do not see If my board that is the Raspberry pi A+ will work on the Priatebox software?

Hello Sense I'm kind of new to all this I really need help I have a raspberry Pi A+ board. I installed the image on a sd card and booted to it as well i can Putty into it over the network i have a Usb to Ethernet adapter which let me go over the local network and a Wireless linksys card that shows up when it boots. But here is my problem after login Either though the putty or local to the system i get to do sudo apt-get update and i get this error message.sudo: apt-get: command not found. I tried to follow this install guide [piratebox.cc] and sense I'm not a linux guy i do not know what to do can someone please Help me out?

Hello i finally got the piratebox working somewhat on my Raspberry pi board but when i go to sudo /etc/init.d/piratebox start i get this error message

I'm using a piratebox and i get it in french language but some links like "Index of /Shared/" still appears in english. I searched where i could change that but don't find anymore.

USB Shared Files instead of SD card Shared files? (5 replies)

Hello I been looking around the forum pages to use a USB flash drive instead of the Micro SD card for the Shared files.
So i looked and found a few But this one caught my eye i thought might work Other Post. But I'm a little confused on how to do something like this sense I'm still a little new to Linux on how i have to i guess mount the flash drive also how to point the Piratebox shared file area to the new drive?

Well my first confusion is how can i mount the drive so it can be automatically there on startup of my Pi? the Other question is how can i Move the Shared file location to the new drive and what folders do i need for the new Flash drive?

The last thing is even if i can get this all to work would it stay like that on the next bootup?

Hello i was wondering if it is possible to for good remove the Readme.txt and header.txt from the Shared folder? when i stop the Piratebox and Delete the Readme.txt and Header.txt then i restart the Piratebox service back up them two txt files come back.

Hey guys, I am still trying to figure out the simple stuff with my rasp pirate 2. Right now I am trying to change my ssid. I see that 1.0.7 is uploaded and will try that out soon but I am still trying to get my bearing on what I have gotten done on the version previous. Thanks!

I am looking for any kind of log file contains info about the user's activity. Does the board register info in syslog and where is the syslog file in this linux distribution?
is there access log to wifi?

Is it possible to Install Raspberrt Pi(rate)Box without timesave if I use a Real Time Clock (RTC) like DS3231? (no replies)

Hi all...
I've successfully set-up as a first thing before starting the set-up steps a DS3231 RTC using the tutorial here .
Then I want to skip completely the second step of set-up, the one about timesave since I think is not needed anymore
Is it ok to run instead of 
Language: PHP
sudo /opt/piratebox/bin/timesave.sh /opt/piratebox/conf/piratebox.conf install

this: 
Language: PHP
/opt/piratebox/bin/install_piratebox.sh /opt/piratebox/conf/piratebox.conf part2

and then continue with the other steps?

Just wanted to report how the new Raspberry Pi 3 runs PirateBox.

The prebuilt image for Pi 2 doesn't work (the act LED blinks repeatedly, with a pattern of 8 blinks and a pause), so I tried the manual instructions on the latest Raspbian Jessie Minimal, and it worked fine. I was able to complete the entire guide with no problems. The PirateBox detected the new built-in WiFi chip, and hosted an access point. My only complaint is that it takes a long time for my devices to obtain an IP address, but that is probably just the devices themselves.

It works finely if I type that commands:

wget [github.com]

chmod u+x lbx_functions.sh
chmod u+x cli_lbx.sh

sudo mv lbx_functions.sh /bin/
sudo mv cli_lbx.sh /bin/

cd /bin

sudo ./cli_lbx.sh do_swapon_step1
sudo ./cli_lbx.sh do_ext_step1

Somewhere in one of the config files, I thought I saw something where you could restrict certain directories to certain types of files. Or maybe it was direct certain types of files to certain directories. Of course, I can't find it again. Am I imagining things?

I'd like to be able to have a folder called "Photos" get filled with any image files, etc. Can this be done, or did I imagine it?

I have PirateBox running successfully on a Raspberry Pi 3 and am in the stages of customizing it for an event I will be setting it up for.

Hello,

I'm new to the RPi world and this forum, I've tried to search for the answer here (and elsewhere) but haven't found anything I've recognised as being the answer.

Basically I want to build a PiBox for my parents who don't have the internet. They have a TV with HDMI and computers and external HDs and I regularly send them content on USBs as they can plug this into their digital receiver for content but they're getting old and it's a hassle for them to get in/behind the set etc.

Ideally I'd like them to be able to send files they have on their computer/external drives to the PiBox and then play the content through their TV screen with a remote or tablet or whatever. From what I've read I think I'll be able to set up a PiBox, and I think I'd be able to set up XMBC/Kodi for them to use the RPi as a media centre - but can these both run on the RPi at the same time? Can PiBox run in the background to receive files and then XMBC plays them?

I've only just started to learn Python so can follow directions but wouldn't be able to code any custom solution if this is what was required.

Hey i'm pretty new to this stuff, but I decided that a Pi(rate) box would be a cool project. I'm running an old model B, with a really cheap USB WiFi card from eBay (which is probably the issue, but I can't afford much better). I have gotten to step five on the main tutorial, and I'm not seeing the AP. There's nothing on the help page that has made much of a difference, I'm hoping one of you more experienced guys can help.

Hello everyone,

It seems there are some weired issues regarding the tracker and DHT. In some cases, everything looks fine, in some other cases nothing works.

I'm investigating the issues with our magnet links & upload server.

Current progress:
- We created our own tracker-server, which will be added to the magnets as soon as the DNS entry is ready

Next Steps:
- Debug issues with DHT and our seedbox
